Kosciusko Island, ALASKA -  NW end Edna Bay --> GPS = 55º 58' N   133º 38' W
Camera looking SouthEast towards entrance to Edna Bay. Entrance Island on right; Limestone Point on left; distance two (plus) miles.
Green Island is just to the right of Entrance Is.; distance 5 miles.
On a clear day you can see Heceta Island; distance about 15 miles. Bald mountain on Heceta Is. is over 2500 feet. Timberline is 1500 to 2000 feet.
Clouds are often seen at about 1000 feet.
Maximum height of ridge on the left (foreground) is about 400 feet. Distance to that ridge is about 3/4 mile. If you can't see that ridge we probably
have fog or low clouds, but sometimes the sun or bright sky will blind the camera.

NOTE: Weather info on picture updated ONLY when WE NOTICE a change. Look at water: Good reflection = calm; ripples = wind 1-10;
few whitecaps = 10+; many whitecaps = 20+; etc. Changes can happen 'snap' in SE Alaska. [Wind speed on pic in KNOTS.]

Abbreviations and order of info on picture:
  1. Wind (from) direction if not zero. E, SW, NE, etc.
    Wind speed in knots.
    For example: SE05G20. Wind is 5 kts with gusts to 20 kts.
  2. Temperature in degrees F
  3. Sky cover: CLR=clear, SCT=scattered, BKN=broken, OVC=overcast
  4. Visibility in miles.
  5. Ceiling "guess" in feet only if it is less than 1000 feet.
    We only have a hill of about 800 feet that we can see to use as a guide.
  6. Other conditions may be added: FG=fog, Hvy FG, SN=snow, LT RA=light rain

Tide 4 may be after midnight indicated as >xx:xx.

The "Rule of 1/12ths" (modified) from "CHAPMAN PILOTING" by Elbert S. Maloney is used to calculate the estimated tide stage.
There are ~ six (6) hours between high and low tides.
"The tide may be assumed to rise or fall 1/12 of the full range during the first and sixth hours after high or low water stands, 2/12 during the second and fifth hours, and 3/12 during the third and fourth hours. The results obtained by this rule will suffice for essentially all situations and locations...."
Maybe I would not use this rule of thumb in the Bay of Fundy or Alaska's Cook Inlet!!
The maximum error should be less than 1 foot---close enough for gov't work.
On rare occasions our lowest tide can be (-4.5) & highest can be +14.5; maximum range is ~19 feet!
Subtract MINUS tides from charted depths especially in shoal waters. This will help you avoid grounding.

Interruptions in service may be caused by:
• Heavy rain or storm cloud between us and satellite.
• Certain days of the year at around noon old Sol gets almost directly behind satellite & will destroy the signal for several minutes.
• We turn our computer OFF when we feel like it.
